The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Digital Health Program, launched in 2007, has been a transformative force in bringing quality healthcare to remote and underserved communities across six countries: Afghanistan, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Tanzania and Uganda. By leveraging Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the program tackles two key challenges: health care access and expertise.
Through telehealth services, the programme connects patients in geographically isolated areas with specialists in well-equipped facilities. This not only reduces the burden of travel for patients but also ensures they receive timely and appropriate care. The program further strengthens local health systems by building the capacity of healthcare providers. Using eLearning modules, healthcare professionals gain access to continuous professional development opportunities, improving the quality of care delivered at the local level.
